At first I was upset that my mom made me come spend 4 weeks out of my summer here at Hofstra. It ended up being a really good experience for me. I made new friends, and learned a lot. It also reiterrated the fact that I want to be a lawyer, but I still don’t know what kind of lawyer I want to be. Technology and CSI were pretty fun too.

My Four Weeks in STEP can be summed up in a few words.
Odd, Full of Ty Sneezing lol, but overall fun.
I feel that STEP is A terrific organization, which awesome people running it. The Teachers for the Summer Scholars Academy were great and really informative… I think it was a good way to spend July…
I highly recommend this program to anyone…
I’ll miss the pplz I met, but luckily some people go to my school. ^_^

So I’ve recently made a Twitter acount, because the Hofstra STEP program is coming to an end. I’d like for all my new friends to follow me on twitter if you can to keep in touch. Im excited about this; although twitter is nothing but a mass text messaging site. I just hope that I dont follow people who tweet about them waking up; breathing; etc. basiclly dont add me on Twitter if you post every 5 seconds. Ha. if you’d like to add me my twitter page is: www.twitter.com/Ty116. Dont be afraid to follow!

STEP is coming to an end. You would think that I would be jumping for joy, elated in some sense. Your right, no more waking up at 7:30 in the morning in order to come to a class that’s not related to my basic high school curriculum.
That’s just it. These classes are not related to my quotidian high school curriculum; they transcend them. I’ve learned so much, I’ve opened up and not to mention I’ve had fun with my new friends whom I would have never met before if it were not for this program. I now have skills that I will carry throughout my college career and beyond. Ive found a bit of myself in this program and will never forget my summer at STEP!
I must admit that taking the bus to and from and doing homework on top of the strenuous homework that I’ve been given by my high school professors was not what I imagined when considering my ideal summer, however, STEP was worth it, all of it. I’m a senior starting in September and as I approach my guaranteed tumultuous college application process, I’ll have this program, all of its participants and all that I have learned in mind.
I’ll miss you guys terribly, teachers too!!! Thank you so much!!!!!
I’ll stay in touch… but for now. Peaceeeeeeeeee :]

African Americans, Hispanics, Caucasian, Asians and any other race has the opportunity to succeed in today’s world. The minorities of today or so focus on the minor issues, we are busy sitting around holding our tummies but we fail to realize we are no longer an inferior group, we have contracted a disease. A disease that has spread and been passed down to generations and turn in to an epidemic. We have poison our children, and brain washed them into believing that they have to BEWARE OF THE WHITE MAN. Rosa Parks, Martian Luther King Junior, Malcolm X, Langston Huges had to beware of the white man, so today we can be free… EQUALITY. The cage door has been unlocked and we were unleashed, yet today there are still people hiding in the cage. When will they come out, step out from the Racism umbrella and feel the free breeze? When will we take our right place in society? We have the opportunity to get a free education yet our children still run wild in the streets. When will we get off our knees? We no longer have to hold our heads down and raise a begging hand, we can raise our hand and speak. Racism is an excuse to freely used by the lazy. If you do not want to work hard than anyone who believes you don’t belong, is right because you choose not to do the work. The only person standing in the way of your achievement is yourself. THE WHITE MAN IS A GHOST, AN MENTALITY

I’m not imagining things am I? I didn’t think so.
Today’s heated and energized debate was characterized by major controversy.
What was the hot topic? RACISM… Honestly, tell me what comes to mind when you hear that word.
Do you think that it still exists…
I was on the con side, or in other words I do believe that racism is still existent and will continue to be as long as people are fixated on that mind-set.
We won! I guess we didn’t need much convincing.

At first I did not expect this program to be as exciting as it turned out to be but I actually enjoyed the program and all that it entailed. I enjoyed the fun we had arguing in Debate class, the new things we learned about computers and blogging in Technology class, the interesting case we tried to solve in Law class, and the exciting things saw and did in CSI Class. I would not be able to make this blog post without this blogging class so I am thankful. Also I enjoyed the lunch that we ate. Also the trips were fun and enjoyable too. The Summer Scholars Academy was very fun and served me well.

This summer has been a truly an educational summer, especially in technology class!
Let’s just say that before this program I was technologically-illiterate and now i know more than i bargained for.
From blogging- to making collages- to properly searching-to editing and movie making, I’ve been learning a lot!
I can’t wait until I can go home and show off my new skills. haha
Thanks Ms. Rodriguez!!!!!!!!!

Ashley Qualls is the 17 year old creator of the website whateverlife.com and is running her business without an MBA or high school diploma. She’s even hired a lawyer to help her out. It all started as a hobby. She began dabbling in Web-site design eight years ago, when she was 9, hogging the family’s Gateway computer in the kitchen all day. When she wasn’t playing games, she was teaching herself the basics of Web design. Whateverlife just sort of happened, another accidental Web business. Originally, Ashley created the site in late 2004 when she was 14 as a way to show off her design work. By 2005, her traffic had exploded; she needed her own dedicated server. Ashley, who had bartered site designs for free Web hosting, couldn’t afford the monthly rental, not on her babysitting income. Her Web host suggested Google AdSense, a service that supplies ads to a site and shares the revenue. The greater the traffic, the more money she’d earn.

For many years students have struggled with the dreaded ” SATs“! Well a young man, known as Andrew Sutherland has not only created a helping hand to students around the world, but guide to help with the pressures of the SAT’s! Andrew created the website in 2005 and since has been gaining thousands of dollars for his hard earned work. “My mission for Quizlet is to make learning vocabulary not a chore. I know a lot of teachers assign vocabulary to students, but few students actually “absorb” words into their vocabularies after they take their test. Which kind of defeats the purpose, right? So Quizlet is my response – it aims to make learning fun, thus make learning effective.“
[Click "Quizlet" Photo to visit the site!]
For the first 420 days, Mrs. Sutherland did the layout, planning, graphics, coding, etc. himself, with help from a few of his friends. “The project had no product managers, no marketers, and no venture capitalists. It was just me and my testers.” Andrew says. “Recently I’ve realized some things are out of my field of expertise (I’m not a lawyer, for example). So there are a few other people involved these days.”
Amazingly Andrew despite his hard work seems like a care-free spirit. He remains, and continues to never let his work get to him and stay youthful throughout this whole experience. It’s pretty great to see he’s beating the pressure of work and SAT’s at such a young age.

The best advice I ever received was about girls. I didn’t know this, but the person who told me this advice told me women are 10 times smarter then men.

I know a lot of teachers assign vocabulary to students, but few students actually “absorb” words into their vocabularies after they take their test. Which kind of defeats the purpose, right? So Quizlet is my response – it aims to make learning fun, thus make learning effective. At the very least, it can help students do better on quizzes and tests even if they don’t fully “absorb” their words.”
Andrew Sutherland, the “whiz kid”, started quizlet when he was only 15 years old. QUIZLET is a website designed for learning vocabulary. the website has had 83,185,204 scores logged, 29,721,129 terms entered, and7,445,955 discussion messages sent. as you can see, it’s pretty popular. so next time you’re studying a vocab test,, instead of breaking out the dictionary, check out quizlet.com!

Ashley Qualls, a 17 year old girl who created a website that supplies web designs and layouts for Myspace. She was offered 1.5 million dollars and a car of her choice even though the price tag for the site wasn’t much over 100,000 dollars.
Millions of people go to that site daily to get layouts for their Myspace Pages. About 7 million people visit and 60 million page hits occur in a month.
